The Brumbies take on the Reds this Saturday night in a game which is important to both teams’ seasons.

The Reds pulled off one of the biggest surprises of the tournament last weekend when they travelled to Albany and took out the Blues while the Brumbies took their biggest ever beating in Super Rugby history when they are thrashed by the Hurricanes in Wellington.

Matches between Australian sides in this year's Super 14 have scaled new lows as the war of attrition and, ultimately, the result seem all important. Where the South African teams seem to beat each other up and the New Zealand teams open up and score tries when they play derby games the Australians look to bore each other into submission.

Brumbies head coach Andy Friend says his side is ready for a big match against the Queenslanders.

Reds coach Ewen McKenzie is without three first-team regulars for the trip to Canberra.

There will be great interest in the battle for Wallabies jumpers with some mouth watering matchups across the park. To name just a few: Giteau vs Cooper, Ashley-Cooper vs Hynes, Moore vs S Faingaa and Valentine vs Genia. Robbie Deans should be attending to see who he thinks is worthy of wearing the Green and Gold in the upcoming test season.

The Brumbies were heralded by most experts as the best chance amongst the Australian teams to make the finals. The Reds on the other hand were expected to just make up the numbers, provide opposed contact sessions and be an excuse for teams to hang out in Queensland for a few days this season.

The match will also be the 50th Super Rugby appearance for former Brumbies hooker Saia Faingaa, having won 27 Super caps for the Brumbies and 22 for the Reds.

The Reds travel to Canberra having never beaten the Brumbies at home and having lost 14 of their 15 encounters, the only victory coming courtesy of a 19-18 win back in 1999.
