Steve McNamara admits his selection of Bradford Bulls' youngest ever second-row partnership in Super League was a "calculated gamble" - but it could be a portent for his reign as England coach.
James Donaldson, just 18, and 20-year-old Elliott Whitehead were thrust together for last Sunday's clash with Hull KR and came up trumps as the Bulls came up with their biggest League win for more than two years.
Crusaders, coached by former Bradford boss Brian Noble, will give a debut to Australian utility back Jarrod Sammut, who flew into the country on Thursday and trained with his new team-mates for the first time.
The Bradford-Crusaders match will kick off a full Super League programme over two days at Murrayfield.
Bulls squad: Crookes, Halley, L'Estrange, Hall, Reardon, Scruton, Sheriffe, Lynch, Kopczak, Sykes, Menzies, Kearney, Godwin, Nero, Platt, Whitehead, Worrincy, Orford, Donaldson.
Crusaders squad: Thomas, Youngquest, Mellars, Witt, Sammut, O'Hara, Withers, Bryant, Hauraki, Chan, Trimarchi, Dyer, Winterstien, Peek, Thackray, Flower, Lupton, Schifcofske, Hanbury.
Bradford are set to recall winger Stuart Reardon, who has missed the last four games with a hamstring strain. Jamie Langley is still sidelined so coach Steve McNamara sticks with 18-year-old second row James Donaldson. New Crusaders signing Jarrod Sammut is set to make his debut at scrum-half, enabling Michael Witt to switch to stand-off. Rocky Trimarchi and Rhys Hanbury.
Will the Bulls be too strong for the Crusaders?
Bradford are at last hitting the kind of form everyone expected from them pre season. 2 well deserved wins over Rovers and Catalans leave them just off the pace at the top of the table.
Bulls have always had terrific power in their side and a couple of the best forwards in super league. But their attack had not been up to much in the 1st couple of months. Thats changed recently and we are seeing that top class Aussie trio of Menzies, Kearney and Orford starting to combine and really hurt sides.
Celtic have been outstanding for a side put together at short notice. Noble always has been at his very best when under pressure and does enjoy that underdog tag. But they looked a very tired side last week against the Giants and there were signs that a little blip might be around the corner.
